You might not want to skimp nor have the best lifestyle money can buy. The most expectation is to go for a figure somewhere in the middle and you’ll probably get it right.

COUPLES: Cost of Living in Bali, Indonesia vs Sydney, Australia (where we’re from)

Since Damien joined be in Ubud, as a couple we cut our living costs by minimum 50% and improved our lifestyle exponentially.

1. We live in an amazing villa with AC & a pool at $600 a month. We live with 2 other housemates that each pay $550 each.
2. The villa comes with a housekeeper that comes everyday
3. The villa cost includes everything: internet, electricity etc so we have no maintenance costs
4. A scooter for transportation costs maximum $70 per month and petrol is $25 per month
5. Eating out costs minimum 50% less than Sydney and cooking is not cost-effective. Food is amazing and you can find anything
6. Massages are $10-$15 an hour
7. Phone and data credit is less than $20 a month

Add on top the beautiful places to go and the relaxed lifestyle and Ubud, Bali is a no-brainer.

I did the math and realised that Damien and I could live here at minimum $1350 AUD a month.

If we want to make time for events, massages and more comfortable accommodation, we expect to pay $2994 AUD for the extra privilege.

Compare that with our costs from Sydney, we are saving a minimum of $3500 AUD every month, more if we want to live on the bare minimum.

That also means that when our lifestyle goes up and our costs go down heavily, we can save money for investments.
