One Night Ultimate Werewolf Rules

What You Need (Play As You Learn)

  • Werewolf Cards
  • Werewolf Tokens
  • Smart phone or Tablet 4 or more players (ideally 5-8)
  • 15 minutes per game
  • Soft table cloth/towel/mat
  • Recommended: Speaker (especially with 5 or more players)

Step 1: Setting up

Pick one person to be game facilitator.

This person will read the rules out loud, and manage the App.

Set up the playing area in a circle, making sure that there’s enough room for players to move around without being felt/heard by another player.

Depending on the role, some players will need to move cards so make sure that all players can reach the middle of the table.

Put a table cloth/towel/mat in the middle of the table so that the cards are easily picked up, moved around and seen without any noises heard.

The game requires one role for each player and 3 extra roles to go to the middle of the table (see setup image above).

Decide which roles you are going to play with.

Here’s a list of basic role suggestions for beginners:

  • 4 players – Werewolf, Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Tanner
  • 5 players – Werewolf, Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Hunter, Tanner
  • 6 players – Werewolf, Minion, Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Hunter, Tanner
  • 7 players – Werewolf, Werewolf, Minion, Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Hunter, Tanner
  • 8 players – Werewolf, Werewolf, Minion, Mason, Mason, Seer, Robber, Troublemaker, Drunk, Insomniac, Tanner

Once you’ve decided on the roles, find the cards for the roles and their corresponding tokens.

Read each role aloud to all players so that everyone is aware of which roles are in the game and what they do.

Place the role tokens on the table face up so that everyone can clearly remember which roles are in play.

These tokens remain on the table face up for the remainder of the game.

Shuffle the Werewolf cards and hand out one card to each player face down, including one to the game facilitator (All players play in all games as the App tells people what to do).

Put the 3 leftover cards face down in the middle.

Instruct each player to read their role carefully without showing anyone else and put it facedown in front of them once they’re done.

Make sure all cards can be reached by all players as cards may need to be moved by other players.

Game facilitator, download and install the free app ‘one night ultimate werewolf’ on your smart phone or tablet using the App Store or Google Play. Hook it up to a speaker if possible.

Go into the App and select all roles that are in play.

Start with 10 minutes per round and update it if it’s too short or long.

Step 2: Night Phase

Press Play on the App and it will say ‘Everyone close your eyes’.

This is called the Night phase as in you go to bed.

The App will call for players with certain roles to open their eyes and perform actions.

It tells you exactly what to do.

Do not look at cards unless specifically told to do so.

Ignore any unintentional sounds you may hear throughout the night phase as this is not part of the game.

Use a speaker with the App to minimise hearing moves during the night phase.

Step 3: Day Phase

When the App says ‘Everyone wake up’, you are now in the Day Phase.

No cards are to be seen from now on until the game is over.

Some cards have been moved during the Night phase.

You are what you wake up as so you may wake up to a different role to the one you saw before you went to sleep in the Night phase.

As players divulge which moves they made and you suspect they’re telling the truth and your role is now something different, you need to start behaving in accordance with the new role:

For example: –

  1. You may go to bed as the Seer and the Troublemaker has swapped your card with another player who was a Werewolf. You are now a Werewolf. You now need to behave as the Werewolf and deflect attention from yourself at all costs.
  2. You went to bed as the Werewolf and the Robber has robbed your card which means you are now the Robber. Your job is to determine that you are now a villager and can admit you were a Werewolf and that the Robber is now the bad guy.
  3.  You were the Drunk and you swapped your card with a card in the middle. During the game, the Seer says that one card in the middle is the Minion card. You realise you are now the Minion and you need to deflect attention from anyone suspicious.

Throughout the day faze, you’re trying to determine what your role is, who your allies are, create trust and deflect suspicion off from yourself to manipulate your desired outcome

Step 4: Kill

Once the timer on the App runs out, The App says ‘Everyone vote’.

Everyone points to the person they think is the Werewolf.

The person with the most votes is killed.

If the person dying was a Werewolf, the Village team wins.

If the person dying was a Villager, the Werewolf team wins.

If the person dying was on their own team, neither the Werewolf nor the Village team wins.

This game is now over. Everyone shows their own card to determine exactly how the cards were moved.

One Night Ultimate DAYBREAK Rules

What You Need (Play As You Learn)

  • Everything from the Original One Night Ultimate Rules
  • Daybreak Werewolf Cards
  • Sentinal Shield Token & Artifact Tokens

The Game is played similar to the Original One night Ultimate Werewolf except that roles are more complicated to play.

Many roles make it difficult to let everyone know you’re a villager and many roles have new ways your role can be swapped.

Read the roles on the cards carefully.

Here’s a list of which roles include extra tokens/cards and what these do exactly:

If the game has a Sentinel is being played, place the Sentinel Shield Token on the table:

Places a shield token on another player’s card face up. This shield stops any players from moving or viewing that player’s card.

If the game includes an Alpha Wolf:

Place a Werewolf card in the middle but sideways so that it is not confused as a center card. When the Alpha Wolf takes it’s turn it will swap another player’s card with the Werewolf card, turning them into a Werewolf.

If the game includes a Curator, the Curator places a token face down on another player’s card without seeing the token. The player with the token gets to view the token. Place all the below tokens face down and have this page ready so everyone knows which tokens are in play:

The Claw of the Werewolf changes the player into a Werewolf.

The Brand of the Villager turns the player into a Villager.

The Cudgel of the Tanner turns the player into a Tanner

The Void of Nothingness doesn’t do anything. The player’s role is the same.

The Mask of Muting stops the player from speaking for the whole game.

The Shroud of Shame forces the player to turn their chair away from the table until after the vote.

The Bow of the Hunter changes the player into a Hunter. The Hunter gets an additional kill if he dies.

The Sword of the Bodyguard changes the player into a Bodyguard so his vote protects whoever he points to.

The Cloak of the Prince changes the player into a Prince. The Prince cannot die so the 2nd most votes dies.

The Mist of the Vampire changes the player into a Vampire. This token is to be played with Vampire cards.

The Dagger of the Traitor wins if another player on his team gets killed.

Daybreak cards and tokens create more complications so be aware of which cards are in play.

One Night Ultimate VAMPIRE Rules

What You Need (Play As You Learn)

  • Everything from the Original One Night Ultimate Rules
  • Vampire Werewolf Cards
  • Vampire Role Tokens & Mark Tokens

The Game is played similar to the Original One night Ultimate Werewolf except that roles include Vampires instead of Werewolves.

Read the roles on the cards carefully. Here’s a list of which roles include extra Mark tokens and what these do exactly:

When the Vampire role is in play, place a Mark of the Vampire token on the table:

The Vampire uses this token to turn another player into a Vampire.

If the game includes the Count, place a Mark of Fear on the table:

The Count places this token on another player’s card. This player cannot wake up to complete their role.

If the game has a Cupid in play, place two Mark of Love tokens on the table:

The Cupid shoots the arrow of love to two players by placing Mark of Love tokens on their cards. The players with the Mark of Love tokens need to keep each other alive because if one person dies, the other also dies of a broken heart.

If the game has a Diseased in play, place a Mark of Disease token on the table:

The Diseased is infected and he/she infects another player by placing the Mark of Disease on their card. Any player that points to infected players automatically lose, even if their team wins.

If the Instigator is in play, place a Mark of the Traitor on the table:

The Instigator gives a Mark of the Traitor to another player. That player wins if another player on his team dies.

If the Priest role is in play, place two Mark of Clarity tokens on the table:

The Priest gives one Mark of Clarity to themselves and one Mark of Clarity to another player. These tokens remove all Vampire, Disease, Love and Traitor Marks.

If the Assassin and/or Apprentice Assassin are in play, place the Mark of the Assassin token on the table: The Assassin puts the Mark of the Assassin on another player and wins only if the player with the Mark of the Assassin dies. The Apprentice Assassin takes over the Assassin’s role if the Assassin role card is in the middle and not in play.

Enjoy the game. Play the Vampire roles by themselves or mix it up with other Werewolf, Daybreak and Alien cards for some epic battles.

One Night Ultimate ALIEN Rules

What You Need (Play As You Learn)

  • Everything from the Original One Night Ultimate Rules
  • Alien Werewolf Cards
  • Alien Role Tokens & Number Tokens

The Game is played similar to the Original One Night Ultimate Werewolf except for 3 elements:

  1. Roles include Aliens instead of Werewolves.
  2. Some roles have dynamic actions which are different each game. The app will tell you exactly what to do so listen carefully.
  3. Ripples are added to the game which is a special event that happens at the end of the night. The app will tell you if there has been a ripple and exactly what the player(s) gain or lose.

Read the roles on the cards carefully.

Here’s a full description of the extra elements and what these do exactly:

1. The Aliens are the ones that villagers are trying to catch but it’s getting harder:

As opposed to the Werewolves, the Aliens live complicated lives and are no longer straight forward. There are more Aliens in the game but 3 of these Aliens have sinister motives and the 2 ‘straight forward’ Aliens can potentially know more than ever with the App allowing them to do more additional actions. The Villagers need to work together more than ever to win.

2. The roles now have dynamic actions, with the App telling the players exactly which cards to move or swap. This changes in the App every game:

Shuffle these number tokens and give one to each player. Set these number tokens face up in clear view of all players. The App will reference a player by using a number. For example, the App may direct the Aliens to view a card from Number 2 or Number 4. The directions of the App change every game and these number tokens allow the directions to be more different.

3. Ripples are special events that sometimes occur in the game:

A Ripple may happen at the end of the night where anything is possible! A player may be given a special ability or several players may gain or lose abilities. There is even a possibility of a time loop. The App will tell you if there has been a ripple so listen carefully to what the App says as it could change the whole game. Play the Alien roles by themselves or mix it up with other Werewolf, Daybreak and Vampire cards for some epic battles.
